Description

These pins are misfits! Or B-grade pins, as some enamel pin sellers and collectors would call them.

What makes these pins misfits? There’s a few different issues that make these b-grade: scratches on the metal, polishing errors, and over- or under-filled enamel. Honestly, you really can’t even see some of these “defects” from a distance!

Kangaroo Joey Enamel Pin: 1.5″ hard enamel pin with black nickel finish. If you’d like an A-grade (or non-misfit) pin, you can find there here.
Through 2020, 50% of profits from this pin were donated to Animal Rescue Collective Craft Guild.

Australia is near & dear to my heart. I spent a semester in Australia during my undergraduate studies and fell in love with the country and all its wildlife. It breaks my heart to know that so much of the country is suffering from the bushfires. I had been wondering what I could do to help when I stumbled across the Animal Rescue Collective Craft Guild (ARCCG) on Facebook. They had a post with what they were requesting from crafters to help the rescued animals: joey pouches, bird nests, bat wraps, and more. And I thought, “Yes! I can do this! I have yarn – I can do something!” From there I found the American Rescue Crafters Connect group (the group based in the US to organize efforts over here) and started crocheting some nests.

But another idea began formulating. I’ve been planning on designing enamel pins and have always wanted a portion of the profits to go to charity. Well, designing a pin to help the animals in Australia seemed like another way I could help.

So I created this enamel pin depicting a kangaroo joey in a knitted pouch. The ARCCG is requesting monetary donations for supplies and distribution so carers receive the items they need to give the animals a fighting chance. Therefore, I will be donating 50% of profits from the sale of this enamel pin to them! I really appreciate any support you can give this group and my enamel pin design.

If you don’t want a pin, you can still donate! Here are just a few places that would be grateful for your support:

Animal Rescue Collective Craft Guild
Australian Red Cross
Fire Relief Fund for First Nations Communities
NSW Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service Inc. (WIRES)
