What to gift a Fiber Artist

What to gift a Fiber Artist

Are you in search of the perfect gift for the knitter or crocheter in your life? Don't worry, I've got you! Here are some ideas to get that gifting mojo going!

I've arranged this gift guide by the level of crafting experience your recipient has. That should help you narrow down the perfect gift for them! Plus, everything included in this list is in stock and ready to ship quickly!

NOTE: This list does not include any yarn. Why? Well, that can be the hardest thing to purchase as a gift for a fiber artist. Unless they've given you specifics on the kind of yarn they want (color, weight, fiber blend, ply, and amount they need for a project), it's generally best to stick to non-yarn gifts.

Newbie:

A newbie! Your gift recipient has recently started knitting or crocheting and they're in love with it. Everywhere they go they've got yarn with them! They can't get enough of it. Personally, I think this is one of the most fun times to give a fiber arts gift. They don't yet have everything they need for these crafts, so almost anything you give them will be cherished. Plus, starting a new hobby is expensive, so they're sure to appreciate your support!

1. A nice set of crochet hooks or knitting needles.
When you're first starting out, you tend to only buy the ones you need. But it's so nice to have them on hand when you need them! Just make sure you know which craft they're interested in first. The Clover Amour Crochet Hook Set (shown above) or the Lykke Interchangeable Needles Starter Set are perfect!

2. Measuring tapes.
Trust me. They'll need one. And they probably can't find one that they already have. Plus, who wouldn't love to have one of these cute sheep measuring tapes??

3. Darning needles.
Even if they already have some. They'll lose every single one - ask any fiber artist. Buy back ups. They'll learn to appreciate them. These come in a set of three.

4. Row counter.
Fiber arts teach you very quickly that we can't count. They're not a failure. It's just part of the game. Save them some stress and get one of these. Choose from pink (shown above) or teal.

Intermediate:

Ok, we're getting more serious now. They've been knitting or crocheting for a bit and their passion is definitely growing. Your gift recipient might seem a tad obsessed with their knitting or crocheting. Their stitches are getting more even. Their projects look like they're supposed to. They may have even realized that collecting yarn is a separate hobby from knitting or crocheting. Time to up your gifting game.

1. Blocking pins.
Once a maker has realized that blocking exists, the whole craft changes. A new world opens up to you. And then you realize you don't want to deal with a million individual pins. That's where these blocking pins come in. With multiple pins per block, blocking finished items is so much faster!

2. Needle case.
They've started a collection of a random assortment of interchangeable knitting needles. It's gotten a bit out of hand and they need a way to organize. These knitting needle cases are perfect! Available in purple or teal (shown above).

3. Fancy scissors.
Don't knock it until you've tried it. There's nothing like snipping those freshly woven in ends with a pair of scissors you love. There's a few different scissors in the shop to choose from, but these rainbow ones (shown above) are my favorite.

Fiber Friends Stitch Markers - Sheep image 0

4. Stitch markers.
There's a point in every fiber artist's life when they realize stitch markers are the jewelry of our crafts. Don't fight it. At least they're cheaper than a diamond bracelet. I have quite a few options of stitch markers in the shop to fit different personalities, but this sheep set I designed is one of my favorites. Plus, they work for knitting or crocheting!

Experienced:

They've been around the block a few times with their crafts. They are a true Fiber Artist. Their yarn stash is... well, large. They've probably made themselves at least one sweater. You love how much they love the fiber arts, but since they have almost everything already, it's gotten much harder to get them a gift they can actually use.

1. Project bags.
You can never had to many project bags. You may think "well, they only ever have one or two projects at a time... how could they need more bags?" There is always room for another project bag! Plus, sometimes as fiber artists, we have to put projects in time out for a bit. So project bags work great for storing as well!

2. Tote Bag.
Tote bags are the BEST. Not only are they perfect for carrying a project to go hang out at their Local Yarn Shop, but they're also great for storing all those project bags you've gotten them. Haha!

3. Gift card.
Honestly, you can't go wrong with a gift card! Get them a gift card to their favorite yarn shop or indie dyer! You can find mine here.

For those that admire the craft:

I think everyone knows someone who loves the fiber arts, but hasn't yet taken the plunge into the yarn world just yet. They're thinking about it, but they're just not quite ready.

1. Stickers.
Who doesn't love stickers?

2. Project bags.
No, it's not a mistake listing project bags twice! No one has to know they were meant for yarn! I personally have friends that use them as a purse! They'd also work great to hold makeup, a first aid kit, or even some art supplies!

3. Tote Bag.
I know, here we go again with something that was listed earlier. But here's the thing - I personally use one of these tote bags to carry a jacket, a small project, and to go containers when I go out to eat. They're such a great size - not too big, but not so small they're useless.

BONUS - Knitters of all levels:

Stitch stoppers.
If they don't already use stitch stoppers, they'll quickly learn how fabulous they are. If they already have some, you can never have enough. The stitch markers may be the jewelry of fiber arts, but stitch stoppers are like the graphic tees of knitting. You can never have too many. Some you have cause they're cute. Some you have cause they're snarky. Some you have because the project is in temporary time out and it doesn't need to get worse by your stitches falling out!

I hope this list was able to help you! Happy gifting!
